New York Times bestselling author Kevin Baker (Dreamland) writes his first original graphic novel, with internationally acclaimed artist Danijel Zezelj. Alik Strelnikov lives in the shadow of Coney Island, a world of silenced rides and rusting amusement parks that mock his dreams of becoming a hero. Ten years ago, he traded a brutal existence in the Russian army for the promise of America only to become an enforcer in the Brooklyn mob. Now, he chases his ghosts with all he has left: booze, heroin and his lover, Marina, part-time prostitute and full-time fortune teller. The only way the two of them can escape their miserable fates hinges on a desperate plan that will put them between warring mobs and span a century, from contemporary Coney Island to the Russia of the Second Chechen War to spellbinding 1910s New York. Mixing historical novel, immigrant fiction and crime thriller, LUNA PARK marks Kevin Baker's return to Coney Island, the setting of his critically beloved Dreamland and features breathtaking art by Danijel Zezelj (LOVELESS) with to-die-for colors by Dave Stewart (DC: THE NEW FRONTIER).

Weird Horrors & Daring Adventures The Joe Kubert Archives v01 (2013)
English | CBR | 243 pages | 312.67 MB

Thirty-three of Sgt. Rock cartoonist Joe Kubert's crime and horror comics, collected in one volume.
Joe Kubert sealed his reputation as one of the greatest American comic-book cartoonists of all time with the four-color adventures of Sgt. Rock of Easy Company, Enemy Ace, and Tarzan, all done for DC Comics during the 1960s and 1970s (themselves already the subject of archival editions)... but he had been working in comics since the 1940s. In fact, young Kubert produced an exciting, significant body of work as a freelance artist for a variety of comic book publishers in the postwar era, in a glorious variety of non-super hero genres: horror, crime, science fiction, western, romance, humor, and more. For the first time, 33 of the best of these stories have been collected in one full-color volume, with a special emphasis on horror and crime. The Kubert work in this book is that of a burgeoning talent attacking the work with tremendous panache, and in the process, developing a style that became one of the most distinctive in the medium. Since these stories were written and drawn in the pre-Comics Code era, they are more thrilling, violent and sexy (by contemporary standards) than much of his later, Code-constrained work. And just the titles of the comic books from which these stories are taken are wonderfully evocative of a bygone era of four-color fun: Cowpuncher, Abbott and Costello Comics, Three Stooges, Eerie, Planet Comics, Meet Miss Pepper, Strange Terrors, Green Hornet Comics, Whack, Jesse James, Out of This World, Crime Does Not Pay, Weird Thrillers, Police Lineup, and Hollywood Confessions. As with Fantagraphics' acclaimed Steve Ditko and Bill Everett Archives series, Weird Horrors and Daring Adventures boasts state-of-the-art restoration and retouching, and historical notes by the book's editor Bill Schelly, author of the Art of Joe Kubert art book and Man of Rock Kubert biography.

Is That All There Is HC (2011)
Is That All There Is HC (2011)
English | CBR | 142 pages | 308.98 MB

A career-spanning collection from the heir to Hergé.
By appropriating and subverting Tintin creator Hergé's classic "clear line" style, Joost Swarte revitalized European alternative comics in the 1970s with a series of satirical, musically elegant, supremely beautifully drawn short stories - often featuring his innocent, magnificently-quiffed Jopo de Pojo, or his orotund scientist character, Anton Makassar.
Under Swarte's own exacting supervision, Is That All There Is? will collect virtually all of his alternative comics work from 1972 to date, including the RAW magazine stories that brought him fame among American comics aficionados in the 1980s. Especially great pains will be taken to match Swarte's superb coloring, which includes stories executed in watercolor, comics printed in retro duotones, fiendishly clever use of Zip-a-Tone screens, and much more. (There's even a story about how to color comics art using those screens, with Makassar as the teacher.)
Other noteworthy stories include Swarte's take on an episode from Hergé's early days, a Fats Domino story, a tribute to the legendary "Upside-Downs" strip, and a story titled simply "Modern Art." 120 pages of full-color comics

Amazing Mysteries Bill Everett Archives v02 Heroic Tales (2013)
English | CBR | 248 pages | 294.62 MB

This book collects over 200 pages of this never-before-reprinted work by Bill Everett. Edited and compiled by best-selling author and comic-book historian Blake Bell, this volume follows the format of Bell's Steve Ditko Archives series; never-before-reprinted, beautifully restored, full-color stories from one of comic books' greatest visionaries and most accomplished artists. Also includes an introduction by Bell that delves even deeper into Everett's life, fiery personality, and the history of the era. The resultant package enhances Everett's place in history as one of the first and best comic-book creators of all time.
"This volume provides an illuminating look at the artist's numerous attempts at catching Sub-Marineresque lightning in a bottle for a second time, a task that mostly eluded him. The comics studios of the golden age were product mills that threw any idea against the wall in hope it would stick, and Everett did much the same. Forgotten sci-fi and superhero creations, as well as forays into westerns, historical retellings, and crime comics, populate this loaded volume, which reads like it fell straight out of some four-color twilight zone." - Publishers Weekly
