Foolbert Funnies collects comics that ran in National Lampoon and other publications and features characters such as Dirty Diana, nostalgic time traveler Frank Crankcase, commonsensical Dr. Feelgood, politician Paddy Booshwah and a host of Amazons, artists, and pulp heroes, all depicted in Stack's scratchy, hatchy 'crowquill' style.

Disillusioned Illusions (2015)
English | CBR | 355 pages | 205.17 MB

When a pair of washed-up silhouettes abandon the optical illusion business to make a graphic novel, they desperately hope the book will rocket them to fame and fortune. They'll do just about anything to finish their project - anything, that is, except put forth any kind of effort whatsoever. Instead, they enlist a Juilliard-trained actor named Rodney to bear the burden of the work while they bicker, smoke, and relax in the break room. But their ingenious attempts at evading the hard labors of proper storytelling backfire when the three become entangled in a labyrinthine narrative of deception, adoption, and betrayal. Alliances and identities are forged and discarded with the turn of a page as the trio hurtles towards a thrilling courtroom conclusion that threatens to pull back the curtain on closely-guarded secrets and conspiracies. Both a touching tale of persistence and a scathing send-up of bibliolatry, Disillusioned Illusions is a powerful exploration of what happens when ambition collides with indolence in this debut graphic novel from cartoonist Greg Stump.

This series is rated Adults Only
DISCLAIMER: graphic sexuality
Unreal City contains five highly charged stories about relationships: "Echoes into Eternity," "Evelyn Dalton-Hoyt," "Emordana," "The Yellowknife Retrospective," and "Objet d'Art." The stories address gender, narcissism, marriage, subjectivity, objectification, and the thin line that divides love from hate. Bryant's characters sometimes feel like they are navigating their way through the darkness in an attempt to make sense of love, sex, art, and life. Existential and elliptical, the stories play beautifully against Bryant's precise and fully-realized artwork, which echoes such masters as Jaime Hernandez and Daniel Clowes. In Unreal City, characters cannot walk into a room without their world turning inside out. Readers will be similarly upended by the discovery of this major new talent.

Betsy and Me (2007)
Betsy and Me (2007)
English | CBR | 120 pages | 165.85 MB

Having mastered comic books and gag cartoons, in 1958 Jack Cole set his sights on the cartoonist's pot of gold - a syndicated newspaper strip. He hit the bull's-eye with Betsy and Me, a breezy domestic farce focusing on a middle-class urban couple and their smart-aleck genius son. Betsy and Me was an instant success and newpapers were lining up to buy it. Then, with only two-and-a-half month's worth of strips completed, Cole purchased a .22 caliber pistol and ended his life. For Betsy and Me, featuring city dweller Chet Tibbit's day-to-day stuggles and achievements, Cole stripped his style down to its bare essentials, creating a strip that sparkles with economy, wit, and charm. What gave the strip its edge, however, was Cole's innovative storytelling. As R.C. Harvey writes in his introduction, "Cole's storytelling manner was unique: the comedy arose from the pictures' contradicting the narrative prose. Cole's fatuous protagonist and narrator would say one thing in the captions accompanying the drawings, but the pictures of his actions showed the opposite, revealing [him] to be a trifle pretentious and wholly delusional." Harvey's intro also serves as a biographical sketch and sheds light on the circumstances surrounding Cole's suicide.
