SUMMARY: To evoke the horror of war through the sweetness of a tale

USSR, 1941. Olenka's life changes when Nazi troops invade the Soviet Union and besiege the city of Leningrad. The eight-year-old girl loses her parents and brother and finds refuge in her ruined apartment. Now living alone with her dog, Olenka survives somehow to hunger and frost, and escapes by vibrating the strings of her violin. One day she meets in a dream a mysterious two-headed eagle who explains to her that the whole city is under the yoke of a curse. Only Olenka's music is able to dissolve the ice charm that has trapped the Goddess of Life, with all the inhabitants of Leningrad. But what will be the price to pay for Olenka?

Between Jonas Fink and The Pianist , The Road of Life is a fairy tale that mixes with story and fantasy poetry, restoring the drama of war through the eyes of a child. Where does reality end and where does the imagination begin?
