Ironically, Jane's invincibility leaves her emotionally hollow and in intense psychic suffering - almost suicidal sometimes. Her inner conflicts and turmoil add an overlay of drama and humanity to her grim quest for vengeance and justice. The multilayered story of Painkiller Jane was launched by creators Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti, but deftly developed by Mark Waid and Brian Augustyn. Art by Rick Leonardi and Palmiotti and a beautiful full-color treatment make Painkiller Jane one of the standout independent titles of the mid-1990s.
