Comment #280 (25 August 2019 13:31) → Bloody Winter (2019)
BLOODY WINTER (2019) SAF Comics

SUMMARY: On the day of his mother's untimely funeral, Ralph, a wheelchair- bound child, is abducted. Twenty years later he returns and is now linked to Norton Gable – a heartless, drug trafficking monster. What's their connection? That's what F.B.I. agent Michelle Pollock wants to know after the strangely quiet Ralph tells her where to find a serial child killer's latest victim. As Agent Pollock gets sucked further and further into Ralph and Norton Gable's twisted world, she encounters deception, betrayal and violence the likes of which she's never known. Dark, gritty and relentless, Sergio Bleda's “"Bloody Winter"” is frighteningly compelling as it creates a world where good doesn't always conquer evil.

Comment #279 (20 August 2019 10:19) → Slum Nation 01-03 (2019)
The story of this graphic novel takes place in the city of Heroica, the largest of the so-called instant cities built in the U.S. during the mass exodus of 2018. The conditions of life are tough, unemployment is high, public services are deficient, people can barely make ends meet. New gangs are organizing in a fight for the new territories. Most of the gangs run from the suburban quarter “Mexican Belt,” which is actually a result of a failed migratory experiment. Doug Balthus, a detective from Heroica, is in big trouble because of his gambling debts. He owes lots of money to two of the most dangerous gangs in town – neither of which is willing to forget his debt. Doug knows that they are after him, so he avoids the places where he usually hangs out. But then one night he gets caught, and just as he thinks his life is over, the boss of “Red Flies” makes him an offer he cannot refuse: Find Alicia and your debt will be forgotten. Doug is thrilled and accepts the offer. During his search for Alicia he meets Laura -- a dancer in a sleazy club. Exhausted and tired of wandering, she opens up to him. Although he is completely broke, Doug invites her to stay with him. He’s also looking for a safe place to hide from “White Noses,” the other gang he owes money to, and it seems that they are a perfect match.

Comment #278 (20 August 2019 10:16) → The Nurse (2019)
Theresa is a nurse hired to accompany young, wheelchair-bound Toby to a controversial clinic in Transnistria. It’s the only medical institution in the world that can offer Toby hope that he will one day walk again. They use radical experimental treatments. Sometimes their results are miraculous; other times, tragic. Once at the clinic, Theresa quickly becomes aware of just how “radical” their treatments are. She then meets a Frenchman, who says: “You’ve got to help me. I broke my arm just so they would admit me to the clinic. I came to save my son from that evil... nurse!” Theresa wants to help, but soon realizes she is a prisoner here. Now she must get Toby out of this terrible place! “The Nurse” is an ultra-bizarre, intense story that will take you places you’ve never been and will never forget!

Comment #268 (18 June 2019 15:51) → Jeremiah 01-09 (2019-2020)
(These three issues were originally published in 1991 under the Malibu Comics imprint.)

Despite its setting, Jeremiah's underlying motif is of hope and the survival of mankind. The storylines carry little from album to album, meaning they can be read individually.
Jeremiah is a Belgian science fiction comic book series by Hermann Huppen. Jeremiah was created in 1979 for the German magazine Zack, and had a premiere in Sarajevo based Strip art magazine, since the editor of this magazine, Ervin Rustemagic, was also Hermann's manager. It has also been serialized in the French-language Métal Hurlant[1] and Spirou magazine; as well as the Serbian magazines Stripoteka and Politikin Zabavnik. Currently, there are 34 volumes and one "Special Edition" in French and Dutch.

SUMMARY: Racial wars have torn the U.S. apart, resulting in a post-apocalyptic world. Many small pockets of civilization still exist; from isolated super high-tech fortresses, hidden research labs, or racial groups in walled-in cities — all fighting each other among the more regular population which in many ways resembles the "old west".

Jeremiah and his friend Kurdy travel the country, taking odd jobs and getting mixed up in various affairs. Jeremiah, being the more noble of the two, often sticks his neck out to help others, while Kurdy is a more wily, opportunistic scoundrel.

Despite its setting, Jeremiah's underlying motif is of hope and the survival of mankind. The storylines carry little from album to album, meaning they can be read individually.

Comment #266 (17 June 2019 10:47) → Zombillenium 01-04 (2019)
Zombillénium v1: Gretchen
Written by: Arthur de Pins
Art by: Arthur de Pins
Digital Release: February 13 2018
49 Pages

Francis von Bloodt, vampire of his state, manages as a good father the amusement park Zombillénium. We do not hire anyone at Zombillenium: the simple mortals have only to go their way, here we only work with authentic werewolves, vampires and mummies. This is what Aurelien will discover, a man at the end of the roller, deceived by his wife; and who will find himself hired in spite of himself in this strange enterprise. Gretchen, trainee witch, will help her to take her first steps...
After having started in the pages of Spirou magazine, Arthur de Pins has multiplied collaborations in animation, publishing and advertising. His hit series Sines Mignons at Fluid icy revisits with humor the classics of naughty comics. With Zombillénium, he tackles another register, that of the fantastic comedy of the most zany, full of winks, of shifted references and replicas already cults.

Zombillenium v2: HUMAN RESSOURCES
Tags on the walls, warning of the priest of the corner: visibly the spirits are warming around Zombillénium. When we only hire dead (or witches!) In a region where the unemployment rate is at 25%, we must expect some friction.
If we add to this visitors a painful crumb and employees who, to be dead, would not like to take a vacation, we understand that it is not too much time to come talk wage claims to Francis Von Bloodt.

A second volume that adds to the casting of Zombillénium with Astaroth, the teenage demon, and which confirms, if it were necessary, the particular talent of Arthur de Pins to handle a totally jubilant black humor.

Comment #265 (16 June 2019 12:58) → Sexecutioner Vol.2 #1-3 (1992) Complete
Sexecutioner Vol.2
Eros comics
Nov 1992
Art by P.Skyler Owens & Mark D. Hyman

It should be obvious to even the most casual observer that this series has a blatant sexual nature. The black & white artwork reminds me of those 'Tijuana Bible' palm-sized pornographic comics from back in the 1920s to the early 1960s and shows little, if any, improvement in the style. The artist seems to have a preference for particularly buxom women with thick legs which I found unappealing. Can't comment on the story line as it only provides filler between the graphic depictions of sex. I can only see this of interest to prepubescent or teenage boys who don't have the benefit of an older brother's porn collection to sneak a look at or haven't manage to figure out how to find it on the internet.

While I only looked at the first issue I suspect the others are pretty much more of the same.

Comment #263 (28 May 2019 21:38) → BLAME! Master Edition v01-v06 (2016-2017)
I already had an 8 volume series of this title that I downloaded back in 2016. They were not the best quality and I wanted to see it this newer batch was any better.

Uhhh... I've only downloaded the first volume of this set and Good Grief!; why in the world did somebody use a 2143x3056 pixel resolution for what is predominantly a black and white comic?!? No wonder the files are so damn big!!

Ok sure, the quality is better that the 2016 batch but I'm not sure if it is worth the gigantic increase in size -- just thought I'd mention it.

Comment #262 (27 May 2019 12:32) → Ge-Rouge 0.5-3 (1997-1998)
GEROUGE ½

Oct 1998
Published by Verotik, TM of Glen Danzig, publisher
Story: Glen Danzig
Art: Simon Bisley
Letters: Sarah
Colors: Drew, Matt Yackey

Ge-rouge? Or Gerouge? Apparently the author can't seem to make up his mind about the characters name since he switched back and forth between 'Gerouge' and Ge-rouge' in the story. Gerouge is on the cover and imprint page but hey, potatoe, patatoe...

Anyway, just one more zombie story. Illustrated in the 'Heavy Metal' school of art with overly muscled male characters and nude women with massive mammaries. Thankfully short at 13 pages.

Only downloaded the first issue so I could post an inkling of what it was about... can't say I was inclined to get the other two.

Comment #260 (20 May 2019 11:40) → The Shroud 01-02 (2018)
THE TRILOGY

The Shroud, a story in three volumes, takes place over several centuries, in several countries, in very different environments. First in France, in the countryside of Troyes in the fourteenth century; then in Italy, in Turin, in the nineteenth century, in the big bourgeoisie; finally in Spain, in the Sierra Nevada desert in the twenty-first century.

The three main characters traverse time and space within the same story.
The story of Lucie, Thomas and Henri is that of a passionate love whose shroud says "Turin" is both the issue and the emblem. The rivalry of the two men for the conquest of the young woman plays in intimacy what is played in public for the conquest of the shroud.

But what is the shroud? An authentic relic of the Passion of Jesus or a skillful medieval forge painted with the stamp?

VOLUME 1
A story by Gérard Mordillat and Jérôme Prieur. Eric Liberge's drawings
80 Pages
SUMMARY: Champagne, February 1357. Henri, bishop of Troyes, rides to the lazaretto of Lirey, to try to convince his cousin Lucie, whom he is in love, to give up his religious vows.
In the chapel where they are gathered, the monks make this bitter observation: the crates are empty, and the work of the abbey, which must accommodate a piece of the True Cross, will soon be stopped, for lack of means... "We made the oath to build an abbey that will host the relic, and we will be faithful to our word, whatever it costs, " exclaimed Thomas, the prior of the community.
The springs of tragedy, both in love and religious, are now in motion ..

Volume 2
A story by Gérard Mordillat and Jérôme Prieur. Eric Liberge's drawings
72 Pages
SUMMARY: Turin, May 1898. Lucia, the only daughter of Baron Tomaso Pastore of Urbino, gives herself for the first time to Enrico Spitiero, a young lawyer and socialist deputy. The baron, leader of the monarchist party is a fervent Catholic, while the lover of Lucia, Enrico, is a notorious atheist. While in the street protesters shout "Down with the monarchy", Secondo Pia photographs the "shroud" in the San Giovanni Baptista Cathedral. For the Baron d'Urbino, it is the face of Christ that is revealed. Immediately, in the Chamber of Deputies, Enrico denounces a sleight of monarchists to "sit the throne of the House of Savoy." The spirits are warming up, Tomaso and Enrico are almost coming to blows. In the audience, Lucia attends helplessly the quarrel between her father and her lover...

Comment #259 (12 May 2019 09:40) → The Days That Disappear (2017)
The Days That Disappear

Author: Timothy Le Boucher

SUMMARY: A chase against lost time...
What would you do if you suddenly realized that you live only one day out of two? This is what happens to Lubin Marshal, a young man in his twenties who, without any memory, wakes up every morning when a whole day has passed. He discovers that during these absences, another personality takes possession of his body. Another himself with a character very different from his own, leading a life that has nothing to do. To organize this physical and temporal cohabitation, Lubin sets out to communicate with his "other", by interposed camera. But gradually, the alter ego takes over and has the body of Lubin longer and longer, the latter gradually evaporating in time... Who knows how many days he has to live before disappearing totally?
Beyond a whimsical narrative, These Days That Go Away , graphic novel in color of 200 pages with a very marked personality, raises strong questions about the identity, the duality of the being and the relationship between the body and the spirit. All along, the reader wonders if Lubin really disappears or if he has schizophrenia. Obviously, the young and talented Timothé Le Boucher, who signs here his third book, is careful not to answer it... And if this character who chases another was simply the adult man who, little by little, hunts the child who is in him?

Appears to be a reprint of the series ORIGINALLY published by Thrillbent, LLC in 2015. Written and drawn by Palle Schmidt.

Now published by Lion Forge Comics, the original story and art appears unchanged. The only obvious differences are new covers, additional pages of "Behind the scenes" and ads for some Lion Forge titles at the end.

Comment #254 (15 April 2019 17:05) → Sever - The Devil's Advocate #1-3 (1995-1996)
From the publisher that dared to print such memorable titles as 'Babylon Crush: A Babylon Bondage Christmas', 'Rectum Errrectum' and 'Mighty Morphing Rump Rangers', Boneyard Press (1991-2003) wasted more paper and ink on the barely readable, incomplete series 'Sever - The Devil’s Advocate'.

An excuse of a plot centers around Thomas Spencer whos pregnant wife is raped, mutilated and killed. He returns from work to discover her body and suffers a complete nervous breakdown, ending up in the Bellevue psych ward.

Enter the Devil with a proposal; help thwart the plans of his long time nemesis. It's a power struggle, seven plans of hell, fight for me, I'll save your wife from Hell's torment, yada, yada, -- wadda ya say?

The artwork is fairly amateurish, reminding me of a friend in High School who constantly doodled images of scantily clad, big breasted women engaged is various carnal activities. The poor choice of font makes the text practically unreadable at times.

Continuity appears non-existent as the issue '0' comes AFTER the first two issues and follows a completely different story line. Bizarrely, at the end of this issue there is a promise of a third issue to complete the previous story line.

Let me summarize in two words: don't bother!

Comment #253 (9 April 2019 08:04) → Jane T01-T03
OK... I'm stumped!

I've searched the websites of Casterman, Dargaud, Delcourt, Dupuis and Glenat for this title and found nothing. I've also searched by the author and artists Denis Falque and Philippe Bonifay -- nada! The Comic Book Database is equally devoid of any information about this seemingly 'phantom' title JANE!

The closest thing I could find to a summary or description was on the back page of the first issue:

JANE 1
Published Sep 1998
Denis Falque (Illustrator), Philippe Bonifay (scriptwriter)
SUMMARY: "Bikers! It's the biggest gathering of Daytona. Kirk and his gang are there for the bikes, the beer, the girls and the fights.
But Jane dreams of another life. At the funeral of her Aunt, she meets cousin Andrew, with him she gets along fine. For Kirk, it's a declaration of war. Someone wants to steal Jane away from him. It's the beginning of a nightmare! Jane and Andrew have to runaway save their own hides. They attempt a race against death.."

JANE 2 - Halloween
Published Oct 1999
Denis Falque (Illustrator), Philippe Bonifay (scriptwriter)
SUMMARY:
The night of Sorcerers, the night of the dead
The children disguise as Ghosts
Ask for sweets...
The fear is for fun.
The gang of pitbull are coming to kill
In the middle of the screams and laughs Jane and the others are in danger.
The bikers are here to revenge for their leader.
The fear, the true fear, is coming at the heart of the celebration

JANE 3 - A grain of sand
Published Feb 26th 2002 by Casterman
Denis Falque (Illustrator), Philippe Bonifay (scriptwriter)
SUMMARY: Jane, Andrew and the whole gang decided to go for a little vacation in the countryside, they wanted to calm down, no such luck. They had to run into those truckers...
And that biker, it's Peter who gives strange looks to Andrew and say he wants to help the gang, what does he really want? There's something not right in this story and Jane will not rest until she finds out what's cooking...
